Executive FUNction: Task Initiation

 


One executive function skill that we are building is Task Initiation. Let’s break it down!

Task = a job, work, chore
Initiation = to begin, start
 

 
Some children have a difficult time getting started once directions have been given.  There are many strategies that they can try to give themselves the boost they need to get started.

• Make a checklist
• Take deep, slow breaths
• Think about the most important job
• Visualize the task completed
• Begin with the easier tasks first
