Ganoñhéñ•nyoñ’ Means Giving Thanks
Mrs. V's Pre-K class is studying the First Americans. This month they have learned many aspects of Native American culture. A long-term project this month has been the study of the Ganoñhsésgeh, or longhouse. Pictured here is a collaborative endeavor to create a village. Students are practicing making Ganoñhsésgehs for their diorama later in the week. Another student is working on erecting totem poles.
The children have also been working on giving thanks - Ganoñhéñ•nyoñ’ - every day. This is an important part of Onondaga culture. The children say thank you - Nya•wéñha - to the things we are blessed with -- Mother Earth, Food, Water, the Moon and Sun, and each other. "Now our minds are one!"
