2021 Modified Volleyball Team

About Coach Williams

I started playing volleyball when I was in 7th grade at Homer School District and continued to play through my senior year. I played on a travel volleyball team starting at age 14 that allowed me to meet players and coaches from across New York State and challenged me to play at higher levels of play. In 2021 I began my coaching experience at McGraw where we finished the season undefeated. We experienced ups and downs along the way but had a lot of fun as well.
As a coach my main goal is to build positive relationships with my players and push them to their fullest potential even when it may be challenging. I enjoy watching players overcome obstacles and reach levels they did not know they had within them. Volleyball is a sport that many players begin at the modified level often never having prior exposure to the sport which allows me to help them develop basic skills while also instilling a passion for the sport as a whole.

The Modified level of Sports

The modified level at McGraw begins at grade 7 and typically consists of seventh and eigth grade athletes. In some cases, this can be a student athletes first time playing a sport and that can be very nerve racking. I encourage all students to take on the challenge of becoming a new athlete as it can be a very rewarding experience! As a coach at this level, my goal is to provide all players with the basic skills needed to play volleyball while also teaching them skills like being a good teammate on and off the court, being good community members, and always putting academics first.

Modified Volleyball Information

Volleyball at McGraw is a modified winter sport and this year that season begins on Monday October 17th. Modified volleyball will practice from 3:15-4:30 at the ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Athletes are expected to show up to practice and leave practice on time.

As of right now, we have 9 games scheduled but that is always subject to change. Please be sure to check the school website frequently for any updates to the game schedule. There are a few games that students will be excused from class early in order to get on the bus and those will be shared with players and families.

McGraw Athletics

Please be sure that all student athletes and families are aware of the Code of Conduct as it relates to athletics. I will hold all players accountable to this!

Modified Volleyball Expectations

A letter will go home with all players at the beginning of the season clearly stating the expectations for the season and forms of communication between the coach, players and families. Please be on the lookout for this important letter following the first day of practice.

Academics will always come first as you are a student athlete. I do check in with the teachers of players throughout our season regarding class performance and behavior during the school day. If players are struggling with anything at school, I will ask they discuss this with me in confidence and we will work on anything together. Players are also expected to be good citizens at school and in the community as attitude is crucial.
